Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Identify training area/range systems and procedures
  2. Review and document currency of information
  3. Assess training area/range systems and procedures against reviewed information
  4. Prepare Training Area/Range Standing Orders
  5. Draft Training Area/Range Standing Orders using the prescribed format
  6. Distribute draft for comment to relevant personnel
  7. Receive, analyse, review and incorporate comments into the draft
  8. Prepare final draft and distribute to relevant personnel
  9. Review Training Area/Range Standing Orders
  10. Incorporate amendments to Training Area/Range Standing Orders and distribute to relevant personnel

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes:

accessing and interpreting relevant legislation, regulations and policies

applying environmental constraints

applying safety traces relevant to a range

applying service writing conventions

interpreting and applying technical information, relevant legislation, regulations and Defence policy

drafting Training Area/Range Standing Orders using the prescribed format

identifying policies, legislation and regulations that are relevant to ranges


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

ammunition danger area templates

relevant policies and procedures in relation to duty of care, ethical standards, training area/range standing orders and all other organisational requirements.

composition of teams and roles and responsibility of team members

conventions of service writing

environmental aspects of range management

range danger area safety traces

permanent range practices

field firing practices

techniques for giving and receiving feedback in a constructive manner

training objectives and activities

weapons/systems characteristics
